Money Personality Test

In her book “What They Don’t Teach You About Money,” Claer Barrett explores and expounds on various money personality traits, elucidating the corresponding money habits that can prove beneficial. Below is a list of the detailed traits with their corresponding habits.

  • Spendy Wendy

Trait: When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.

Habit: Having a limit to your spending, simply budgeting. Delaying gratification if spending is a reward; also having a limit to the amount that goes towards ‘reward’.

  • Goblin

Trait: The frugal hoarders; my precious!

Habit: Allowing yourself to enjoy the money you’ve made. Having a form of cash flow plan beforehand to show there’s enough slack in your budget.

  • Yolo

Trait: Huge risk takers to get rich quick.

Habit: Lowering the risk. Investing more on learning good spending habits. Assign the appropriate risk to your spending rather than going all out on uncontrollable risks.

  • Jitterbug

Trait: Having a constant underlying anxiety about money.

Habit: Focus on what you can control, talking to someone about your anxiety and giving voice to your fears; having a session with a financial planner could help.

  • Spreadsheet slave

Trait: Not scared to run the numbers and sees money as a tool (recommended trait).

Habit: Not losing sight of the bigger picture. Focusing too much on the details can disconnect you from your wider goals.

  • Ostrich

Trait: Silent prayers when it’s time to pay. Burying their heads in the sand.

Habit: Dealing with money can be overwhelming, take one step at a time. Follow a priority list, with a deadline and a reward for completing a task. The reward steers you to the next task.

Jump on the money bandwagon to unveil your fiasco. I’m a mix of a Spreadsheet slave, Jitterburg and Yolo. Sometimes, when I’m rocking mu budget ballet, Yolo bursts in threatening to ruin Goblin’s choreography!
